"German Springback" bound with 90(ish) pages, gold edged and round-cornered. (All by hand! No fancy edge-cutters for me. Trusty scalpel and a cotton reel.)
Covered in hand-dyed chamois leather. Yip, that is the soft thin yellow leather you clean your car with. Hand-embriodered head-bands of gold and green thread. Hand-painted end papers. Green velvet marker ribbon. Raised circle on the cover, surrounding a knotwork design in gold (yes, I created that too). 12 cms wide 15 cms high 2.5 cms thick This was an extremely time-consuming and intensive book, not only because of the type of binding, but because I did everything I possibly could do myself. A Springback tutorial can be found here: [link] Also, I highly recommend trying out chamois as a covering material. It is soft, supple, cheap, easy to work with, and feels good. A few tips: - Wash it really well first. Soak it completely and wash it thoroughly with gentle soap. Rinse well, wring out and hang up to dry out of direct sunlight. - And, it is easier, when gluing chamois to your book, to lay the glue on the board, not the chamois. I loved creating this book, it was an absoloute joy. And I'm glad I went for the knotwork on the cover. I taught myself the art years ago, and have gotten away from it lately, so it was good to create that quick knot. I think it is pretty. And for the curious, my design page for this book: [link] Oh, also, This type of book is fun to make, and quite easy, but the tutorials I have seen can be unnecessarily confusing. I've been thinking about creating an easier-to-follow tutorial for a book of this type. Let me know if you would be interested in something like that, and if enough people do, I'll put one together.
